“A Roundtable Discussion on the August 15 Unification Doctrine and International Cooperation in partnership with the Embassy of the Republic of Korea”

The Stratbase ADR Institute, in partnership with the Embassy of the Republic of Korea, held a roundtable discussion on the August 15 Unification Doctrine and International Cooperation at the Grand Hyatt Hotel.

The roundtable discussion welcomed a delegation from the Ministry of Unification from the Republic of Korea. Mr. Seunghee Hwang, Director General for Unification Planning, Ministry of Unification, gave the welcoming remarks: “Korean unification must proceed in a way that enhances the human rights of the people in Korea. We must ultimately contribute to global peace and security.”

Ms. Hanbyeol Lee, Director, Improving North Korean Human Rights Center, Committee for Future Planning of Unification, Ms. Eunyoung Park, Deputy Director, Unification Foundation Division, Unification Policy Office, Ministry of Unification, and Mr. Heon Woo Lee, Senior Manager, Unification Foundation Division, Unification Policy Office, Ministry of Unification joined the discussion.

Prof. Dindo Manhit, President of Stratbase Group, said in his opening remarks, “Peace and freedom remain the two fundamental pillars of the international liberal order, but when human rights are violated and nuclear threats are made, this weakens the global stability that all of us so heavily rely on. Despite these ongoing challenges, South Korea remains hopeful and gracious.

We, at the Stratbase Institute, look forward to exploring how the Philippines can support this important initiative, especially as we share the same commitment to democratic values, a rules-based international order, and the promotion of peace and security in the Indo-Pacific region.”

Prof. Jae Woo Choo, Professor of Chinese foreign policy, Department of Chinese Studies, Kyung Hee University, gave a lecture on the doctrine and how the international community can cooperate to achieve stability and peace in the Indo-Pacific region.
