Deterrence and Alliances in the Indo-Pacific and Europe: Lessons from Two Strategic Theatres

The Stratbase Institute, in partnership with the Konrad-Adenauer-Stiftung (KAS) Philippines, convened the forum “Deterrence and Alliances in the Indo-Pacific and Europe: Lessons from Two Strategic Theatres” at Makati Diamond Residences.

The forum reaffirmed the importance of sustained dialogue and practical cooperation between Europe and the Indo-Pacific in upholding a rules-based international order grounded in international law, multilateralism, and shared democratic values. Discussions examined lessons from the war in Ukraine and developments in the South China Sea, highlighting the importance of credible deterrence, maritime security, defense cooperation, and stronger coordination among allies and partners.

In his closing remarks, Stratbase Institute President and CEO Prof. Victor Andres “Dindo” Manhit emphasized that cooperation between Europe and the Indo-Pacific is essential to shared security. He underscored the importance of sustaining these partnerships to resist coercion, protect the systems that connect societies, and preserve a peaceful environment where people can prosper.
