“Beyond El Niño: Building Climate-Resilient Food Systems”

The Stratbase Institute, in partnership with the Embassy of Israel in the Philippines, convened “Beyond El Niño: Building Climate-Resilient Food Systems” in Quezon City, bringing together government representatives, agricultural experts, and business leaders to discuss strengthening Philippine food security through innovation.

In his opening remarks, Stratbase Institute President and CEO Prof. Victor Andres “Dindo” Manhit underscored the need for investment in local production and support for Philippine farmers and the role of innovation in building a more reliable and affordable food supply. Food security simply means food that families can afford, and the country should be working toward that goal.

In her welcome remarks, H.E. Dana Kursh, Ambassador of Israel to the Philippines, spoke of the growing threat of El Niño and what it means for food production. She highlighted how Israel can be a strategic partner for the Philippines in helping achieve food security for the country.

Discussions focused on improving agricultural productivity, using water more efficiently through smart irrigation, and strengthening connections between farms and markets. Participants explored how technology and international partnerships can help farmers respond to climate challenges and build more resilient food systems.

The forum underscored the need to translate innovation into practical solutions that support farmers’ livelihoods and make food more affordable and accessible to Filipino families.
